Water Adventure Sports – Summer Sports

Most of our planet is covered in water. In our history, ever since we have had the ability to travel on water, we have also found ways to make it fun. There are a lot of sports out there that involve water, and all of them are exhilarating, fun, and totally awesome!

1. Parasailing

Parasailing is technically a kiting activity. One person drives a fast-moving boat with another person behind it and is attached to something like a parachute. It is attached to the boat by a cable. As the boat gains more momentum, the person with the parachute trailing behind gets momentum to float into the air.

The person parasailing gets to float in the air for a while as the boat continues to tow them and provide the momentum needed to stay up. They come down gently when the boat slows and is amazing at their very fun ride!

2. Surfing

Surfing

Surfing is a sport in which the user (surfer) paddles out into the ocean on a surfboard. They wait for a wave to come, at which point they stand on their board. The forward motion of the wave carries the board for anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two.

The shape of the board keeps it (and the rider) perpendicular to the wave itself. It is most commonly done in the ocean, but it has been done in lakes and rivers. It is also one of the only sports that can be done from a manmade location, as there are plenty of wave pools in theme parks and cruise ships.

3. Water-Skiing

This sport requires a certain level of upper body strength, as the user had to hold on to a bar attached to a boat driving anywhere from 15 to 40 miles an hour. The user has skis attached to their feet. They tread water until the boat beings to drive, at which point the skier comes up to the surface.

They skim the surface, using the skis to avoid sinking. It is an activity practiced all over the world and by all age levels.

4. Kayaking

Kayaking

Kayaking is a sport in which one or two users sits either atop or settled in the kayak itself. They use paddles to provide forward momentum. There are many different kinds of kayaks, including single-user, tandem, and inflatable. Not many water sports offer inflatable vessels, but the diversity in kayaking is astounding.

For example, the Advanced Elements FireFly is a great option for both beginners and advanced users. The variations continue in how these vessels are used. People take this sport in a variety of environments.

Enthusiasts of this sport will take it out on the ocean, on river rapids, or on a crystal clear pond. It provides social interaction, stress relief, an upper body workout, and tons of fun. No matter the environment, avid kayakers find enjoyment in this hobby.

5. Windsurfing

Windsurfing is sport that is comprised of both surfing and sailing. The user stands atop a board. There is a sail attached to the board that the person typically holds on to. The wind is what makes this vehicle go, and the person can enjoy a ride that lasts as long as the gusts and breezes do.

Unfortunately, unlike other sports, the only thing that can make this vehicle move is the environment, which can vary from day to day or even minute to minute. When the conditions are right, however, this activity is very enjoyable.

6. Jet Skiing

Jet Skiing

This activity is well-loved by those who have the opportunity to try it out. It requires a jet ski, which a motor powered vessel in which the user sits on a seat high above the waves. It is most similarly compared to a motorcycle. The engine provides the motion needed to go forward.

Speeds can reach up to 90 miles an hour. Adventure junkies flock to this hobby as a way to get their heart-pounding fix. It is possible to go slow on a jet ski, but the culture of the sport dictates you go hard and fast.

All are Great, But…

These water sports are tons of fun, and there are plenty more unlisted activities that get people wet and wild all over the world. However, if you’re looking for your introduction into a new sport, or simply looking to change things up, look into kayaking.

Unlike other hobbies, kayaking does not require a motor, the right environment, or even another person. Your own body is what makes it move. Equipment is cheaper than many of those required for the activities listed above, and you can get more use out of it in more environments.

Whatever’s closest to you, whether it is the ocean, a lake, or even a pond, your boat and your body is all that you need to find your adventure out there.
